Kasa lights and plugs
roomZy Edge switches your TP-Link Kasa lights, plugs and power strips directly — so a bay start can power a sim, the tee light can be part of a sequence, and the open sign can be a button on the dashboard. There is nothing to install: the Edge at your venue already knows how to talk to them.
In the Kasa app
One-time, per device
- Add every plug, strip and bulb to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (Kasa devices don't do 5 GHz), on the same network as the Edge.
- Turn on Third Party Compatibility — in the app, for the account or for each device. Newer Kasa devices refuse local control without it, whatever the password.
- Give each device a fixed address (DHCP reservation) on your router, so it can't wander. If it does move, it stops responding until roomZy updates its address.
In your roomZy dashboard
Settings → Apps & devices
- TP-Link (Kasa) account → Enter the Kasa login: the e-mail and password you use in the Kasa app. Older Kasa plugs don't need it; newer ones won't answer without it. roomZy staff never see the password.
- Tell roomZy which plug or bulb does what — which bay, which outlet, its address, and its name in the app. That's the wiring, and roomZy does it from your list: support@roomzy.io.
The Kasa card shows what the Edge can reach: 3 plugs · 2 lights, or 1 unreachable when something isn't answering.
Check it's working
Three places
- Settings → Apps & devices: the Kasa card counts every device as reachable. "Unreachable" beside one means it isn't answering — check its Wi-Fi, its address, and Third Party Compatibility.
- On the Facility screen, toggle a light or a named outlet — it responds, and its state comes back within a second.
- Start a bay whose sequence uses a Kasa plug — the plug switches with it.
If a device won't answer
- Reachable in the Kasa app but not here? The app goes through TP-Link's cloud; roomZy talks to the device on your own network. Pull the device's plug for ten seconds and put it back — Kasa devices sometimes stop answering locally after weeks of uptime while still working from the app.
- "Rejected the login"? Third Party Compatibility is off for that device, or the login on the account card isn't the account the device lives under. Check both in the Kasa app under the device's settings.
- Changed the Kasa password? Enter it again on the account card. The Edge picks it up within a minute.
- New plug or bulb? Add it in the Kasa app with Third Party Compatibility on, then tell roomZy what it does.
